Dr Daniel Chen
Procedural Cardiologist
Dr Chen established and leads the cardio-oncology services at the Prince of Wales Hospital and St George Hospital; the programs at these two hospitals were the first in Sydney to receive Gold accreditation by the International Cardio-Oncology Society (ICOS). He holds board certification and is a member of ICOS and a Level III Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging specialist with the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI).
Prior to his current roles, he completed cardiology training at the Prince of Wales and St George Hospitals in Sydney before undertaking a cardio-oncology and cardiac imaging fellowship with the Barts Heart Centre in London, UK. He was subsequently appointed as a consultant cardiologist in 2021 to the University College of London Hospital and Barts Heart Centre as a cardio-oncologist, and an honorary associate professor at the University College of London, before relocating back to Sydney, Australia in 2023.
His current research focuses on the cardiovascular outcomes associated with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy in patients with relapsed and refractory B-cell blood cancers, the utility of advanced cardiac imaging and serum biomarkers for early diagnosis of cardiotoxicity in these patients. His other research interests include immunotherapy induced cardiotoxicities, cardiovascular outcomes in breast cancer, and cancer survivorship.
