Dr Tom Ford

INTERVENTIONAL Cardiologist

Associate Professor Tom Ford is an internationally recognised Interventional Cardiologist with expertise in angina and ischaemic heart disease. Based on the Central Coast of NSW, Dr Ford is the Director of Central Heart, where he leads the provision of advanced cardiac care for the local community.

Though primarily based at Central Heart, Dr Ford regularly travels to the Eastern Heart Clinic at Prince of Wales Hospital to collaborate with the highly skilled team, including his close friends and colleagues Dr Virag Kushwaha and Dr Kiran Sarathy. This partnership allows them to offer complex procedures, including TAVI and other structural interventions, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of care. Having trained at EHC, Tom values the trust and expertise shared at this centre, which is equipped to manage the most complex patient needs through a collaborative, two-doctor approach for procedures like aortic valve replacements.

A/Prof Ford is a high-volume Interventional Cardiologist, specialising in complex coronary disease and CTO procedures. He qualified as a cardiologist in Sydney’s East and South in 2015 (Prince of Wales Hospital and St George Hospitals). With over 10 years of experience as a cardiologist, Dr Ford is energised about his practice as he continues to build on his expertise. He is an invited proctor for rotablation and a certified orbital atherectomy operator, regularly performing complex interventions.

As a conjoint Associate Professor at the University of Newcastle, he mentors trainees and leads cardiology research on the Central Coast. With advanced training in both Australia and the UK, including a fellowship at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow, Dr Ford’s PhD in invasive assessment of angina has contributed to cardiology guideline development, and his research, including 140 scientific manuscripts, has been widely published and presented at major conferences.

Dr Ford was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and graduated from the University of Dundee at the age of 22, earning the University Medal (Captain WA Low Prize 2007).
